Mail Handling Operations

High security and incidents involving potentially contaminated mail with biohazards such as anthrax or smallpox have created demand for enclosures that allow suspicious mail to be sorted and opened safely. PowderSafe™ enclosures are ideal for safe handling of mail. The Type A, B and C are considered Class I biological safety cabinets and uses a 99.997% at 0.3 efficient HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filter to remove particulates, including bacteria and viruses, from the air. Room air enters the PowderSafe™ enclosure through the front sash opening. Particulates found within the enclosure is captured in the air stream and trapped in the HEPA filter located in the chamber of the enclosure. Particulate free air is recirculated into the room.

Standard equipment on each PowderSafe™ enclosure is the AirSafe™ automatic safety controller. AirSafe™ constantly monitors airflow and filter condition. Desired face velocity can be set by the operator and automatic adjustment is provided by AirSafe™ when the volume of air is too little or too great to achieve the desired preset face velocity. HEPA filters have a pressure drop that indicates when they are clogged. AirSafe™ monitors that level of pressure and provides audible and visible alarms when HEPA filter change out is required.

PowderSafe™ is designed to be standalone, requiring no external hook up to ductwork or permanent mounting to the building as a fixture. PowderSafe™ is factory leak tested to ensure both filter and chamber integrity.
